About Me.
My name is Alaina Newell and I am a UX designer currently based out of New Orleans, LA. I design human-centered products where users’ can experience accessibility, delight, and beauty in equal amounts!
Before UX design, I earned my bachelor’s in art history from Louisiana State University. However, I knew while I worked towards my degree I wouldn’t have a traditional job in the art world. For a long time, I planned on getting my Master of Social Work to become a sex therapist who utilizes art in their clinical sessions. When I noticed that career didn’t align with myself anymore I began to search for other career paths outside of psychology, but still shared some qualities. Then, I came across UX design! To me, it is a field plotted on the intersection of humanities, technology, and aesthetics. Here, I know that I’m able to utilize my understanding of the human psyche I gained from the psychology and sociology courses I took on top of my art classes. Furthermore, I was a teacher’s assistant in a local primary school which exposed me to how necessary it is for information to be delivered in an easily digestible manner to its receivers. Empathy is an invaluable soft skill I strengthen in education that now acts as an impetus to my designs.
I enjoy working with design agencies because I like to work with varied clientele and create products across a wide spectrum. In one year I hope to manage clients’ cases and lead a project.
As can be collected from what was previously stated, I love art and artists, so I try to connect with it through out my days. My free time is partly devoted to finding the pleasurable moments between the mundane through music, photography, drawing, knitting and even long boarding! I am grateful to be able to have those experiences, but I also look forward to new ones too.
I would love to create new experiences with you as well, so hit me up! Let’s bring more beauty into the world.
